भारत के ग्यारहवें राष्ट्रपति और 'मिसाइल मैन' के नाम से विख्यात डॉ. ए.पी.जे. अब्दुल कलाम का जीवन सादगी, देशभक्ति और अटूट संकल्प का एक जीवंत प्रतीक है। 15 अक्टूबर 1931 को तमिलनाडु के रामेश्वरम में एक साधारण परिवार में जन्मे कलाम साहब ने बचपन के कड़े अभावों को मात देकर सफलता के सर्वोच्च शिखर को छुआ। उनका सफर केवल एक नाविक के बेटे से देश के प्रथम नागरिक बनने तक का नहीं था, बल्कि भारत को विज्ञान और रक्षा के क्षेत्र में आत्मनिर्भर बनाने का एक महान अनुष्ठान था।
ISRO और DRDO में अपने कार्यकाल के दौरान उन्होंने 'अग्नि' और 'पृथ्वी' जैसी स्वदेशी मिसाइलों का सफल विकास किया। सन 1998 के पोखरण परमाणु परीक्षण के मुख्य सूत्रधार के रूप में उन्होंने भारत को विश्व पटल पर एक परमाणु शक्ति संपन्न राष्ट्र बनाया। उनके इस निस्वार्थ राष्ट्र-समर्पण के लिए उन्हें देश के सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान 'भारत रत्न' से अलंकृत किया गया।
जब उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति का पद संभाला, तो राष्ट्रपति भवन के दरवाजे आम जनता और विशेषकर बच्चों के लिए खुल गए, जिसके कारण उन्हें 'जनता का राष्ट्रपति' कहा गया। वे राष्ट्रपति पद पर रहने के बावजूद आजीवन बेहद साधारण जीवन जीते रहे। उनके विचार, जैसे "सपने वो नहीं जो हम सोते हुए देखते हैं, सपने वो हैं जो हमें सोने नहीं देते", आज भी करोड़ों युवाओं को आगे बढ़ने की प्रेरणा देते हैं। 27 जुलाई 2015 को आईआईएम शिलांग में छात्रों को व्याख्यान देते समय उन्होंने अंतिम सांस ली। भौतिक संपत्ति के नाम पर केवल कुछ किताबें और सादे कपड़े छोड़ने वाले कलाम साहब आज भी अपने विचारों के रूप में हर भारतीय के दिल में अमर हैं।

As the chief architect of the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests, he established India as a nuclear-armed nation on the global stage. For his selfless dedication to t nation, he was honored with India's highest civilian award, the 'Bharat Ratna'.
When he assumed the presidency, the doors of Rashtrapati Bhavan were opened to the general public, especially children, earning him the title of the 'People's President'. Despite holding the highest office in the country, he lived an exceptionally simple life throughout his days. His thoughts, such as "Dreams are not those which we see while sleeping, dreams are those that do not let us sleep," continue to inspire millions of youth to move forward. On July 27, 2015, he breathed his last while delivering a lecture to students at IIM Shillong. Leaving behind only a few books and simple clothes as his material wealth, Dr. Kalam remains immortal in the heart of every Indian through his ideals.
