On 14 August 1941, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced the Atlantic Charter. It outlined important principles such as self-determination, peace and economic cooperation for the post-war world. The Charter later played an important role in shaping the ideas that led to the establishment of the United Nations.
