अगस्त क्रांति दिवस (9 अगस्त 1942)
8 अगस्त को भारत छोड़ो प्रस्ताव पास होने के तुरंत बाद, ब्रिटिश सरकार ने 9 अगस्त की सुबह तड़के 'ऑपरेशन ज़ीरो ऑवर' चलाकर महात्मा गांधी सहित सभी बड़े नेताओं को गिरफ्तार कर लिया। नेतृत्व विहीन होने के बावजूद देश की आम जनता खुद सड़कों पर उतर आई और आंदोलन की कमान संभाल ली। इसी दिन युवा स्वतंत्रता सेनानी अरुणा आसफ़ अली ने मुंबई के ग्वालिया टैंक मैदान में तिरंगा फहराकर अंग्रेजों को सीधी चुनौती दी। नेताओं की गिरफ्तारी के बाद जनता के इस स्वतःस्फूर्त विद्रोह के कारण ही हर साल 9 अगस्त को 'अगस्त क्रांति दिवस' के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

Immediately after the Quit India resolution was passed, the British government launched 'Operation Zero Hour' in the early hours of 9 August, arresting Mahatma Gandhi and all top leaders. Despite being leaderless, the general public took to the streets and led the movement themselves. On this very day, young freedom fighter Aruna Asaf Ali defiantly hoisted the national flag at Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai. Due to this spontaneous mass uprising following the arrests, 9 August is celebrated every year as 'August Kranti Diwas'.
