I Am an Indian Student
Respected Chief Guest, Respected Principal, respected teachers, dear parents, and my dear friends,
A very happy Independence Day to all of you.
Today, I do not want to speak about India only as a country. I want to speak about India as a student.
I am an Indian student.
Every morning, I come to school. I carry books in my bag. I sit in a classroom. I learn new things. I make mistakes. I ask questions. I have dreams.
And sometimes, I wonder—how lucky am I to have all these opportunities?
There was a time when India was not free. There was a time when people had to struggle for basic rights. Our freedom fighters dreamed of an India where future generations could live with dignity.
That future generation is us.
So, when I look at the Indian flag, I don't see only three colours.
I see courage.
I see sacrifice.
I see hope.
I see millions of dreams.
But I also see responsibility.
Because the question is not only, “What has India given me?”
The question is also, “What can I give to India?”
I may be a student today. I may not be able to change the whole country. But I can change myself.
I can study honestly.
I can respect my teachers.
I can help my classmates.
I can keep my surroundings clean.
I can save water.
I can respect people who speak a different language or follow a different culture.
I can learn to disagree without hating.
These may look like small things.
But great nations are built from small acts of responsibility.
India's future is not somewhere far away.
It is sitting in our classrooms.
It is reading books with us.
It is learning with us.
It is dreaming with us.
One day, we will leave these classrooms.
Some of us will become doctors.
Some engineers.
Some teachers.
Some soldiers.
Some scientists.
Some artists.
Some entrepreneurs.
Whatever we become, we will carry one identity with us.
We will remain Indians.
So today, on our Independence Day, I want to make a simple promise.
I will not wait until I become an adult to serve my country.
I will start today.
With my studies.
With my behaviour.
With my honesty.
With my kindness.
And with my hard work.
Because I believe that loving India is not only about saying, “I love my country.”
It is about becoming the kind of person who makes the country better.
I am an Indian student.
And I am proud of it.
